Instagram Stories or Snapchat?

A clear photocopy of Snapchat and something that was inevitably going to be re-invented since Facebook failed to acquire Snapchat back in 2013.

Instagram’s new rollout of ‘Stories’, a secondary feed of ephemeral content that is available for only 24 hours after posting, is a clear photocopy of Snapchat and something that was inevitably going to be re-invented since Facebook failed to acquire Snapchat back in 2013.

My initial thoughts on the new roll-out: It’s brilliant and will most likely give Snapchat a run for it’s money…Unless Snapchat can pull something extraordinary out the bag!

 WHY STORIES OVER SNAPCHAT?

–       First and foremost it’s simple to use, users regularly complained about the confusing interface of Snapchat and now Instagram has simplified this to cater to the masses.

–       You can avoid the hassle of having to find and add people’s usernames because all of your Instagram followers ‘Stories’ (the community that you have spent so long growing) are right there at your disposal.

–       Everything is all in one place, no need to open another application. In this day and age we know that saving time is key.

The only disadvantage I see to ‘Stories’ at the moment, is the plethora of funny features available on Snapchat that can keep you amused for hours! These features however, cater more for it’s core audience: GEN Z. If Snapchat want to stay strong in the game they will need to find new ways to keep this particular audience engaged!
