HI GAVIN, THANKS FOR SPARING FIVE MINUTES! LET’S JUMP STRAIGHT IN; WHAT’S A TREND THAT’S GOT YOU EXCITED AT THE MOMENT?

Definitely the changing face of social and how the introduction of concierge and messaging services within this are changing the way we use our social apps. There will come a day soon where you don’t have to leave Whatsapp to find reviews for a good local restaurant, book a table, and then book your Uber to take you there. It’ll all be about interconnectivity that suits you, not the app developers or brands.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE TIPS FOR SPOTTING A TREND AND ACTING ON IT?

IF THERE WAS A TREND OR BUZZWORD THAT YOU COULD GET RID OF, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

It’s not a buzzword as such, but there has been a depressing trend towards the homogenisation of the high street, neighbourhoods and online shopping in London. There’s been a definite lack of originality or innovation with cookie cutter repeats dominating what’s available. This is a pity considering how easy it would be to create new interesting offers that are easily findable through digital; just look to the ever increasing craft beer scene, micro-breweries and associated beer and pub apps. As they say in Austin, we need to keep London weird.

WHAT IS A CAMPAIGN OR BRAND THAT YOU’VE LOVED WORKING ON?

Yoplait (Frubes, Petits Filous, Liberte) have been a really interesting and fun brand to work on recently. We’re working on loads of great stuff for them, which will start seeding out into market soon. I get excited by a brand that’s willing to go right back to its core and find out its raison d’etre, it’s brilliant to work with and Yoplait have been exactly that.

WHAT’S SOMETHING AWAY FROM WORK AND THE WORLD OF DIGITAL THAT YOU LOVE DOING?

Well most of my friends would describe my house as a furniture warehouse. I take old neglected design classics and breathe new life into them, but sometimes I find it hard to let go of them when I’m done!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE TIPS FOR SPOTTING A TREND AND ACTING ON IT?

Thanks for letting us quiz you, Gavin! Keep an eye out for our next interview with James, our Head of Tech.
